Ethics and Policy

Publication Ethics

The IJLD subscribes to the COPE’s principles and the University Grants Commission (Promotion of Academic Integrity and Prevention of Plagiarism in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations, 2018 for addressing misconduct in order to maintain the integrity of research.

The IJLD requires authors to comply with international, national and/or institutional standards for research reporting. This is especially critical in research involving human and/or animal subjects, their data and biological material, and informed consent.

Disclosures and Declarations

All authors are asked to include information about their funding sources, financial or non-financial interests, study-specific approval by the appropriate ethics committee for research involving humans and/or animals, informed consent if the research involved human participants, and an animal welfare statement if the research involved animals (as appropriate).

Work submitted for publication may have consequences for public health or general welfare, and it is the obligation of all authors to make the necessary disclosures and declarations.

Author Identification

Authors are strongly advised to utilize their ORCID ID when submitting an article for consideration.

Authorship Issues or Disputes

The Journal will not investigate or adjudicate any authorship disputes that arise during peer review or after acceptance and publication.

The authors will be invited to settle the disagreement themselves. Once they are unable, the Journal maintains the right to remove a submission from the editing process or, once an article has been published, to raise the matter with the authors' institution(s) and follow its standards.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

IJLD is committed to upholding the integrity of the scientific record. Authors should avoid misrepresenting study results, since this might harm faith in the journal, the professionalism of scientific authorship, and, eventually, the entire scientific effort.

To maintain the integrity of the research and its presentation, observe the norms of good scientific practice, which include:

  1. The submitted work must be original and have not been previously published in any form or language (partially or fully), unless the new work is an extension of past work.
  2. The manuscript should not be submitted to more than one publication for simultaneous consideration.
  3. Please be transparent about material reuse to prevent worries about text recycling (self-plagiarism).
  4. Single research should not be divided into different portions and submitted to multiple publications or to the same publisher over time (salami-slicing/publishing).
  5. No data, text, or theories by others be presented by the author(s) as if they were the author’s own (plagiarism). The journal may utilize software to detect plagiarism.
  6. Authors should ensure that they have authorization to utilize software, questionnaires/(web) surveys, and scales in their research (where applicable). Research papers and non-research papers (e.g., opinion, review, and case studies) must mention suitable and relevant literature to support their assertions.
  7. Excessive and improper self-citation, as well as coordinated efforts by several writers to collectively self-cite, are severely discouraged.
  8. Authors should avoid making false assertions about an entity (which might be a human or a firm) or describing their conduct or acts in ways that could be interpreted as personal assaults or charges against that person.
  9. The author(s) shall be solely accountable for the failures to comply with the research and publication ethics.
Research Ethics and Biosecurity
  1. All research involving human subjects requires must ensure informed permission of participants to participate in the study (or their parent or legal guardian in the case of children under the age of 18), and a statement to this effect must be included in the article.
  2. Before submitting a work to the IJLD, authors should ensure that they have obtained consent from individuals to publish their data.
  3. The IJLD encourages authors to adhere to the 'Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER guidelines)' and to include sex and gender factors where appropriate. To prevent confusion, authors should use the terms sex (a biological property) and gender (a social and cultural construct) carefully.
  4. When reporting a study that involved human participants, their data or biological material, authors should include a statement that confirms that the study was approved (or granted exemption) by the appropriate institutional and/or national research ethics committee.
  5. Authors should provide extensive information on the ethical handling of animals in their submission. They may utilize the ARRIVE checklist, which is intended for use when submitting research report documenting animal research.
  6. Field studies involving genetically engineered plants must follow national or local regulations, and, if relevant, the paper must include a note indicating the appropriate permits and/or licenses.
Review Policy

There shall be two tiers of review of the received original research papers.

The research papers shall undergo desk review to check its compatibility with the scope of the IJLD.

The desk review will be completed within 15 days from the last date of submission of the paper declared in the call for papers.

Once the research paper is found suitable with the scope of the IJLD, it shall be forwarded to two subject experts for blind peer-review.

The authors shall be notified with the review comments to bring modifications and corrections in their research papers within the stipulated period.

The review process shall be completed within 50 days from the date of notification of desk review.
